Secondary plant substances and thus the OPC in the grape seed extract develop their effect primarily as an antioxidant. The OPC effect consists primarily of catching so-called “free radicals”. Free radicals are partly responsible for the oxidative stress in our body and thus, among other things, for the aging process, inflammatory processes, cell degeneration and the “destruction” of normal molecules and structures, e.g. in tissue. To put it simply, when a free radical combines with a molecule, a new molecule is created that has no beneficial function or a harmful effect on our body. Because it occurs with oxygen, oxidative stress is often compared to the rusting of a car or the browning of a banana in the air. The OPC effect as a radical scavenger means that OPC helps to slow down or prevent this oxidation. An increase in cell protection and a slowing of inflammatory processes as well as fewer “non-functional” molecules that weaken or destroy our cells and tissue.
